Last year 2007, PokerStars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour started with a series of tournaments around Asia Pacific region. The tour started from Philippines to Korea to Macau and later Australia. The grand final was won by a local player, a Sydneysider Grant Levy. With this, another poker player has turned millionaire overnight just like that.
You can listen to a mp3 interview of what the Sydney APPT 2007 champion, Grant Levy has to say after the win from the ABC website (QuickTime needed) : Grant Levy-ABC mp3 interview
This time around, the Philippines is starting their very own Filipino Poker Tour following the momentum from APPT. The tournament started on Jan 26 and took 2 days. It all happened at their new card club, Metro Card Club. The tournament also receives coverage from PokerStars which supposedly will be airing the game all over Philippines.
This was confirmed from PokerStars Philippines Regional Manager message to their players. The message was relayed by local Filipino poker player at his poker blog. An interesting blog which have a lot of news on Philippines poker.
It is without doubt that Phlippines indeed have an affinity towards poker. It seems to be growing non-stop. Because Filipino poker players were the majority players in the past qualifiers to APPT.
